Loved the Mi MAX except...

I love my 64 GB Mi MAX. My previous phone was a 6" Huawei Ascend Mate 7 (32 GB dual SIM). The Mi MAX is everything my Mate 7 was (and more) at HALF the price of my previous mate 7. However, I find it wastes a lot of space as it doesn't utilize the large screen size very well. My previous mate 7 (currently on Marshmallow) has a 'view mode' option in which you can adjust the amount of information/reading material/screen elements that can fit into the screen. I just found out that despite the bigger screen size (6.44"), my Mi MAX is not able to match the information density/screen elements density of my smaller, 6", 2-year old Mate 7. With my Mate 7, I am able to fit more screen items or fit in more lines and columns of of text (like no. of displayed 'contact names' in one screen for example, or the no. of lines displayed in the settings page). Essentially, there is more reading space in my 6" Mate 7 than in my Mi MAX. Somehow its disappointing considering the Mi MAX screen is 0.44" larger than the Mate 7.

Is there a way to fix this without rooting the phone or unlocking the bootloader?
I'd appreciate any step-by-step help on this matter. Thanks.

Also, I find the screen on the Mi Max is not as sensitive on some parts (notably, the right half). 'Next page' swiping at the right half portion of the screen sometimes doesn't get registered by the screen whereas at the left half portion always gets the 'next page' swiping gesture. Also, the long press (for example, to open webpages in a separate window in Chrome) is less sensitive on the right half portion (generally) - it sometimes doesn't register on occasion on the left side or that you need to press longer/harder. Never had this issue with my Mate 7 which was perfectly sensitive and responsive to touch in ALL screen areas.

Anybody else has this issue? Is this a software or a hardware issue? Anyway to adjust screen sensitivity on the Mi Max? My mate 7 had a 'gloves' mode or something like it, but I don't find it in the settings menu of the Mi Max. (Miui 7.3.14.0.0).
Thanks again for any help/suggestion.
