Greetings. A long-time Android user and have setup many phones on both pop3 and corporate e-mail systems.
This has me perplexed. Another community had no answer so hopefully someone here can help. I have this issue with THREE S7's (2 edges) on TWC e-mail I have setup so I know it is not just one phone. I should have noted in that title that my S5 was on 5.0 lollipop by the time I stopped using it, not JB.
I have always used the standard e-mail app with a Time Warner POP3 account. I am familiar with IMAP but up until MM or the S7, the way it worked was great for me. I setup the phones for "delete from server when deleted on phone", or whatever the wording has changed to...and I have always had my desktop outlook client set to "delete from server". So during the day, all my e-mail was on the phone unless I deleted it. At the end of the day, Outlook would download what was left. But here is the different behavior. With my last phone, an S5 (and all prior android phones), when that phone next connected to that POP3 server, all of the e-mail that was no longer there would disappear from the phone. Yes, I am 100% sure I have been using the POP3 server/port number. This is how android behaved prior to the S7/MM. Now an Ipad always just left the e-mail on there (using the same server and ports). And.....that is what the S7 with Marshmallow is doing now. It will not delete any email from the phone when it syncs, you have to delete manually. And yes, I know that is how most people say POP3 works, but I am just explaining how things have been working to this point.
I know the obvious suggestion is that I have been using an IMAP setup for the last 10+ years. I can assure you I have not. The phones are setup with POP3 accounts using the POP 3 server/port. And Outlook is absolutely setup as a POP 3 account.
In fact, my old S5 is in airplane mode but on wifi. I just refreshed my TWC e-mail on my S5 and it still behaves EXACTLY the way it used to. All the old e-mail went away and only the e-mail that came in since I closed outlook showed up. So what has changed with the MM e-mail client behavior or e-mail settings? I see no new settings in there for this.
If this behavior is now "as expected" or an "enhancement", I am going to have to figure out how to switch to IMAP without messing up everything I have saved locally now in multiple folders and is working. I don't want to keep anything on the ISP's server, I want access to it during the day, then at the end of the day I want outlook to suck it all down. And then I want my phone to start downloading email after that moment that Outlook cleared out the e-mail for the new day....
Thanks for any help! Other than this e-mail issue (and the garish e-mail client colors) I love the device.
