I cannot for the love of all that is holy get my computer to notice my nook (nst)

it just wont, the whole system works perfectly fine from boot up to boot down, the usb port is known good, the wire is known good, its just this one thing.

is there a driver i'm missing or a step or a program i'm supposed to use?
i'm at a loss
