Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to support Samsung DeX without DeX Pad or DeX Station

Samsung DeX Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung launched Samsung DeX with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. It was what Samsung believed to be the future of the mobile workstation, but it was pretty much a flop. Not very many people used DeX because the station was too expensive and inconvenient. Samsung is looking to make up for that with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Our source is saying that you will be able to use DeX without a special DeX Station or DeX Pad. All you will need is a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter. WinFuture was able to corroborate this information first.

Samsung DeX was a new experience for Samsung that allowed a user to turn their phone into what was pretty close to an Android desktop. It had mouse and keyboard support, extra USB ports, and windowed apps. DeX had support for Microsoft Office and could be used for basic productivity tasks in the workplace. There was also gaming support with games like Asphalt 8. Apps that were optimized for DeX would run better on DeX then other apps that didn't support it. Samsung also announced support for Linux on Galaxy with Samsung DeX.

This new DeX system will be based around software. All you will need is a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter. Then connect the phone to an external display and DeX will launch. It won't be as easy to connect peripherals, but you can use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for control. There is a possibility that Samsung will use the display as a trackpad and keyboard like they are doing with the DeX Pad, but we that's just speculation. With this new support for DeX, there is also going to be support for Fortnite on Android with it. You will be able to play Fortnite on a TV using the Galaxy Note 9. This will presumably have support for mouse and keyboard, but we will know more next month.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be unveiled in just 2 weeks. The Galaxy Note 9, the new DeX, and Fortnite mobile are all going to be announced at Samsung Unpacked at the Barclays Center on August 9th. What are you the most excited about?
